The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council administers the Georgia Crime Victims’ Compensation Program (CVCP), which helps victims and their families by providing financial assistance with expenses such as medical bills, loss of earnings, funeral expenses, mental health counseling and crime scene clean-up.
As a victim of crime, you may be entitled to compensation for expenses incurred as a result of being victimized. You may eligible for the following categories of compensation if they are not already covered by another source for up to a total of $25,000.
Medical & Dental Expenses: Up to $15,000
Mental Health Counseling Expenses: Up to $3,000
Funeral Expenses: Up to $3,000
Loss of Support/Lost Wages: Up to $10,000
Crime Scene Sanitation: Up to $1500

Crime Victims’ Compensation does have limitations. Victims must file an application for assistance with the Crime Victims’ Compensation Program within one year of the crime. Remember to keep all applicable receipts to submit with your application.
Compensation cannot be made for damaged, stolen or lost property. However, these may be covered under Victim Impact Restitution (contact your Victim-Witness Advocate for more information).
